Ingrid Farnell

Ingrid is the Research Officer for the Bulkley Valley Research Centre’s Silviculture Innovation Program, Fire Stewardship Program, and Whitebark Pine Restoration Program. She holds a Master of Science from the University of Northern British Columbia. Her master’s research, conducted in the Date Creek Research Forest in the Kispiox Valley, examined how harvest activities influence downed dead wood and American marten habitat. She also used remote sensing to predict dead wood across the landscape and evaluate its effects on habitat quality.

Within the Silviculture Innovation Program, Ingrid leads the Multi-Values Silviculture Project in partnership with the Office of the Wet’suwet’en, supporting collaborative research that integrates ecological, cultural, and forest management values.

Since moving to Smithers in 2015, Ingrid has proudly called the Bulkley Valley home, where she is raising a young family. When she’s not in the office, you’ll likely find her mountain biking, skiing, or hiking—especially if it means getting out into the forests she helps study.
