SIP Research
The Silviculture Innovation Program (SIP) Research Stream mission is to enhance knowledge on innovative silviculture practices across British Columbia through dedicated research and extension efforts. By addressing critical knowledge gaps, from key topics to under-researched regions, and expanding or initiating research trials, our research stream aims to overcome the challenges limiting the application of innovative silviculture. Together, we can advance the science and practice of forestry in BC.
The SIP research stream is grounded in principles to support collaborative partnerships with communities and practitioners, involve interdisciplinary approaches, and support diverse perspectives.
The Focus of research:
Currently, the SIP research stream is focused on the following key areas:
- Supporting applied research – Implementing innovative silviculture for multiple values.
- Establishing new silvicultural trials or re-invigorating or extending existing trials.
- Improving the availability and accessibility of data used to inform silvicultural treatments, including improving understanding of multiple values and the bioeconomy.
- Understanding public and professional perceptions of the barriers and opportunities for innovative silviculture.
- Collation, curation and syntheses of existing research from long-term trials and operational innovative silviculture.
Grant Program
